Avalon uses jane iredale makeup which is non-comedogenic (doesn't block pores) and oil free. Mineral particles form a protective barrier on the skin which allows it to breathe and function normally. This protective barrier also traps environmental pollutants. Although minerals don't block pores and act as anti-inflammatories and anti-microbials, jane ireldale still tests all of their makeup for comedogenicity in a laboratory. This attention to detail is why they have so many testimonials from acne patients claiming an improvement in their skins since using jane iredale. The only oils they use in their formulas are in products where they want to help condition the skin - such as in their under-eye concealer and lip products.
Additionally, all jane iredale products provide protection from both UVA and UVB rays and are formulated with chemical-free sunscreen actives. Their mineral sunscreen actives, titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, provide instant, Broad Spectrum, Water Resistant 40 Minutes, sun protection. Only sunscreen products that pass the US FDA Broad Spectrum test and water resistancy requirements, and have an SPF of greater than 15, may claim “Broad Spectrum,” Water Resistant 40 or 80 Minutes, and make the additional use claims: "decreases the risk of skin cancer and early skin aging if used as directed with other sun protection measures."
